2012 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

2012 was an excellent vintage in Coonawarra and our eight rows of our grower’s vineyard (1.88 acres) shone. We blended into our low-cropped ’12 Coonawarra Cabernet small volumes (less than 8.5% combined) of ’13 McLaren Vale Cabernet Franc and Coonawarra Merlot and hints (less than 1.5% combined) of ’13 Coonawarra Cabernet and McLaren Vale Cabernet, to produce what I think is our best Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon yet.

It is such an elegant wine – the style we have been working towards.

Typical dark red/purple hue. The nose looks very varietal – and regional too. It smells of lovely dark fruits and violets in a dusty, cedar background. It is quite floral. The palate is soft and alluring. The wine is medium-bodied, with an intense, juicy middle – the classic “iron fist in a velvet glove”. Perfectly ripe blackberry and mulberry fruits fill the mouth and are met with gorgeous soft, dusty tannins on the finish. All is in harmony.

The wine is closed with a Diam cork.

It would be a great match with lamb, but would also complement beautifully white meats and even a tuna steak. Enjoy!
