2004 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 8 rows of our grower’s vineyard, in the heart of Coonawarra, is going from strength to strength. We have an area of 1.88 acres, dedicated to us, where we control the viticulture.
In 2004, the fruit was a little riper than the prior 2 vintages, producing a more generous style, but another outstanding wine. Again, we have blended in some lighter-bodied, aromatic Mt Benson merlot, which comprises 15% of the final blend. We are delighted with the result.
Dark, blood red hue. Rich, profound, dusty nose of dark fruits, violets and tea leaves, with typical notes of eucalypt and mint. Generous, full palate of blackberry and mulberry fruits, with supportive oak. The flavour builds in the mid-palate, with tongue-squeezing acid and soft tannins on the finish.
A great match with any red meat with an appropriate chutney and will handle some spice with ease. Saag gosht and beef rendang come to mind.
The wine should benefit from many years in the cellar, but is a great drink right now.
