2009 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
We did not produce a wine from our usual grower's vineyard in 2009. However, we did produce this lovely Cabernet Sauvignon, which contains 14% Malbec. Both components came from Coonawarra fruit.
Dark red/purple hue. Classic Coonawarra cabernet nose, showing rich blackberry, cassis, violet and dusty tannin/oak aromas. Very fresh, ripe vibrant palate for a 5 year old red closed with a cork. Youthful. Great structure. Rich juicy palate with hints of tea and cedar, amidst the mulberry and blackberry fruit, encased by some lovely soft tannins that make you hungry. Perfectly integrated oak easily swallowed by the copious fruit.
Like all our cabernets, would be great with roast lamb and mint sauce, but could also handle a classy steak with a rich marinade without any problem.
The wine should benefit from many years in the cellar, but is a great drink right now.
