2004 Hunter Valley Semillon
Our 2 acre section of our grower’s mean, 33 year old, Pokolbin vineyard produced super fruit again in 2004. The vineyard is remarkably consistent and our 2004 Hunter Valley Semillon is true to style.
Pale straw colour. Quite a lifted nose for a young Hunter Semillon, with scents of citrus, hay and gunshot. Lovely soft palate, such mouthfeel being the hallmark of top Hunter Semillon, with tongue squeezing lemon acid on the finish. Flinty, lemony fruit, almost riesling like, mixed with apricot notes and cut grass.
Needs a subtle fish (eg whiting), with a squeeze of lemon, or a plate of fresh prawns. Will undergo an extraordinary metamorphosis with 5 years bottle age and should still be going strong in 10 years’ time.
